I am trying to find information regarding Halloween and the Seventh Day Adventists beliefs. Any information you can relay to me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and patience.
Dear Brother ___________,
Thank you for contacting the Ellen G. White Estate. Darryl Thompson forwarded your message to me. I am not aware of any specific reference to Halloween in official church actions. However, I think you may be able to find items that would be of interest to you if you use the Seventh-day Adventist Periodical Index to search for material on Halloween. Go to the website for the James White Library at Andrews University: http://www.andrews.edu/library. On the opening menu, under "Electronic Resources," look for "SDA Periodical Index" and click on it. Then you'll have to click on the bar across the top of the screen to go to the periodical index itself. Next, choose "WORDS in Title, Subject or Notes." Enter "Halloween" in the dialog box, and click the Search button. Soon you will have a listing of over 40 articles which relate to Halloween. Some of them will look more relevant to you than others, but you can pick what seems most likely.
Now the next problem is how to read the articles. They are not online. If you are close enough to one of our college or university libraries to go there for your research, this would be your best bet. If you are not, you might contact the nearest one to you and ask if they can photocopy certain articles and send them to you. You should expect to pay for this service, of course, but if they will do it, it will save you a trip and the expense connected with such travel.
I hope this might be helpful to you. Let me know if I can be of further service. Thank you for writing, and God bless!
