Hi, I am an SDA and my girlfriend is not. There are some issues that she is concerned with that is blocking her from understanding the bible truths. Her main cocern is our roots and how we started. She has been reading "white lies" written by an ex SDA pastor. She now claims sister white to be a false prophet (deut.) and that our church was based on lies. What can I get to shed light on the errors that this ex pastor wrote in "white lies"? There is no compramise for her, because the word told her to be afraid of false prophets. No matter what I say she believes that book she is reading. She did agree to study with me though. What can I get or read to combat this book "white lies"? Thank you ___________
Dear Brother ___________,
Thank you for contacting the Ellen G. White Estate. I have a couple of suggestions for you. First, in regard to the book The White Lie, you will find a document on our website, www.WhiteEstate.org, which may be helpful. It is called "The Truth About The White Lie." You will find it by clicking on "Issues & Answers" on the menu at the left of our home page, then on "Reference Library," and then scrolling down about a screen's worth to find the link to that document. About four items above that link on the list is another document you will want, called "The Predictions of the 1856 Vision." This document looks at the question of unfulfilled prophecy. I take it that this was the concern of your girlfriend on the basis of Deuteronomy 18:21, 22. But Jeremiah 18:7-10 also has something to say on the matter. And Jonah's experience illustrates Jeremiah 18, not Deuteronomy 18. The document I've referred to will cover these things.
Though I think your girlfriend is reading material that does not present matters in their true light, I am pleased to learn that she takes the Bible seriously enough to let it determine her choices. She needs to discover what more the Bible says on the issue of prophecy than the lone text in Deuteronomy 18.
I hope this will be helpful. Let me know if I can be of further service. Thank you for writing, and God bless!
