Then one day she heard a visitor say, "What a pity! I should not know her."
"Let me see," Ellen said.
At times because of all the suggestions and accusations that were made, she was led to question her own experience. She wrote:
In 1837 a traumatic event occurred in the life of a small girl in Portland, Maine. This event eventually would have far-reaching consequences in all parts of the world.
Satan is constantly working through his agents to dishearten & destroy those whom God has chosen to accomplish a great & good work. (AA 418)
