Mexico (MX)

A Spanish-American federal republic situated on the southern extremity of the North America continent, between the United States on the north and Guatemala and Belize on the south, and between the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean. It extends more than 1,600 miles (2,500 kilometers) from north to south and covers an area of 761,604 square miles (1.9 million square kilometers). The economy of Mexico is predominantly agricultural, but in the course of the twentieth century rapid industrialization has been taking place, and now Mexico enjoys a relatively high standard of living. The population (1994) of Mexico is 92.3 million and is growing at the rate of 2.6 percent a year.
