San Marina (SM)

A tiny republic (area 24 square miles [60 square kilometers]; population [1992] 23,000, of Italian origin) entirely within Italy, near the Adriatic coast about 25 miles (40 kilometers) southeast of Ravenna. It is reputed to be the oldest state in Europe; tradition says that its history goes back to the fourth century. There are no Seventh-day Adventists in the republic. Sebastiano Rossitto went there in 1933 as the first literature evangelist. Literature evangelists go there regularly to distribute SDA publications. San Marino is assigned to the Italian Union of Churches, a part of the Euro-Africa Division.
