Venezuela (VE)

A republic situated on the north coast of South America, bounded on the east by Guyana, on the north by the Caribbean Sea, on the west by Colombia, and on the south by Brazil. It has an area of 352,143 square miles (912,050 square kilometers) and a population (1994) of more than 20 million. The inhabitants of Venezuela have descended from three racial stocks: European, Black, and Indian. Approximately 69 percent of the population is mixed (Spanish and Indian); 20 percent are of European extraction (such as Spanish, Portuguese, French, Austrian); 9 percent are Black, and about 2 percent are pure Indian.
