In March 1840, Ellen Harmon heard the message of William Miller for the first time. Then in the summer of 1842, at a methodist camp meeting, she was led to a new understanding of justification by faith. Soon she was baptized into the Methodist Church. About this time, she accepted the message of William Miller. Due to periods of perplexity and a dream she had, Ellen visited Levi F. Stockman. He comforted her that Jesus must be preparing her for some special work. Also on that evening Ellen offered her first prayer in public and from this time on she shared her faith with others.
