After the General Conference Session of 1874, the Whites moved back into their home in Battle Creek. Since James' responsibilities as president of the General Conference didn´t allow him to attend the eastern camp meetings, Ellen went without him. On January 4, 1875 the school in Battle Creek was dedicated and a few weeks later the Whites left for California to assist in forming a publishing association and locating and putting up a publishing house.
